The Climb of Life

For a University assignment, I worked on a game in a team of 5, called "The Climb of Life". It is a 2-4 player board game. You play as a mountain climber and your goal is to reach the top of the mountain before the other players. Each turn the player rolls a dice which determines how many tiles they move forward by. The tiles are coloured according to which event that happens when the player lands on it: for example, a red tile is a Disaster tile. On these tiles, the player draws from a pool of random cards for that event. So if a player were to land on a red tile, they'd pull a card from the Disaster cards pool.

There are three types of cards: Disasters, Debuffs and Items. Disasters are major setbacks to the player. These include missing a turn, moving back spaces, etc. Debuffs are negative events, but not massively disadvantageous. These include -1 to every roll, lose a random item, etc. Lastly, Items are designed to give the player an advantage. They can contain items to counter Disasters and Debuffs. At the start of the game, players can choose two items to strategically help them climb the mountain.

When a player is carrying items, they are hooked on to their Meeple's backpack. This is shown in image #4. The idea behind this was that if this were a physical game, the objects would be able to clip on to the backpacks.

All models were made in Blender.
All cards were made in Aseprite.
The game itself was made in Unity.
